Like the Conjuring, the follow-on film Annabelle is inspired by the lives of demonologists Lorraine and Ed Warren. This doll actually did exist and obviously, she was haunted. The Warren couple were contacted for their services in the 1970s to look into this evil doll that the owners found at a garage sale.

Before they were called, the doll managed to move itself around and even wrote words, like a child. Like what, you ask? ‘Help me’. Donna, the lady of the house then called a medium who told her that the doll was ‘inhabited’ by the soul of a 7-year-old girl named… Annabelle.
Did she kill a man?
Despite finding this out, Donna decided to keep the doll… until it physically attacked her and her friend. A priest then decided it was the best idea to call the Warrens. Ed and Lorraine, who felt the demonic presence in the doll, decided to take the doll with them to put it on display, locked in a display case, in their museum.
But the story doesn’t end there. Rumor has it that a man died in a car accident a few hours after knocking on the glass of the display case. Lorraine Warren says that she can’t look Annabelle in the eyes but if you want to test it for yourself, the museum is open to the public. Visit it at your own peril.
