As a reminder, the plot takes place on the planet Pandora, a strange, futuristic world several light-years away from Earth. Jake, a former soldier who is now paralysed and in a wheelchair is sent to Pandora on a mission to infiltrate the Na'vi, the inhabitants of this planet. To do so, Jake takes on the form of an avatar, a hybrid created by crossing human DNA with Na'vi DNA. But his encounter with the Na'vi Neytiri changes everything for him and for the future of Pandora...
At the time, this work became the highest-grossing film in box office history and for some critics, the film marked the future of cinema.
James Cameron then announced that there would be at least four sequels, and this news was well received. In 2010, the director had planned for Avatar 2 to be released by the end of 2014, and Avatar 3 in 2015. Several delays later and one could almost have imagined that the project had fallen through.
But against all odds, we finally received some goods news in May: Avatar 2 is back in active development.
What is the plot of ‘Avatar 2’?
Producer Jon Landau made a few revelations to the press to keep fans on their toes. The story takes place several years after the destruction of the Hometree and the two main characters are still together:
Jake and Neytiri have a family in this movie, they are forced to leave their home, they go out and explore the different regions of Pandora, including spending quite a bit of time on the water, around the water, in the water.
It even seems that the two main characters are now the parents of an 8-year-old girl.
In any case, James Cameron isn’t taking any half measure for this sequel. Known for his perfectionism he has developed new technology specifically for these sequels such as ‘a technique for capturing movement underwater.’
The footage should be incredible as we return to the world of Pandora in December 2021!
