Matty became one of the most talked about names in the Olympics Games this summer. There had been some talk of getting Tom on board before but after his performance in the Olympics Matty became a hot favourite and his diary was free. The timing was perfect. Matty is young, strong and will thrive under the pressures of the challenges. He is really excited about getting on board and diving into the action.
Who is Matty Lee?
Matty Lee became a household name this summer when he and diving partner Tom Daley won gold in the men’s synchronised dive in Tokyo. Originally from Leeds, Matty started diving at the age of 7 and began competing back in 2012. Growing up, he was inspired by Tom Daley. Little did he know, they would one day be diving partners!
However, it hasn’t always been an easy journey. Back in 2019, he opened up about being bullied at school because of his sport. He told Team GB:
Growing up and being a diver wasn’t easy. I got bullied in the lower end of secondary school for diving, things happen like that and people can be so uneducated, they call you names, the main thing they said is that I’m gay. If I was so what? It’s funny because when I got to year 11 and started being successful, people started being excited and raving about it, now they all want to talk to me, it’s funny how things change.
