The trailer for the new season is finally out and 2019 marks the last year for the Game of Thrones series, which began in 2011 on HBO. 2011 is also the year A Dance with Dragons, the latest book by George R.R Martin, was published. Since then, the series has taken over and the writer is starting to regret it.

When the series goes beyond the book

The last volume ended (spoiler alert) with the death of Jon Snow, and it is now quite possible that the series took many liberties compared to what George R.R Martin had in mind for his books. Even though the writer has broadly explained the end to David Benioff and Dan Weiss, it is now obvious that the conclusion of the series will be different from that of the book.

A writer's regrets

George R.R Martin confesses to Entertainment Weekly that he regrets not having written everything sooner. The writer will discover what awaits Jon Snow and Daenerys at the same time as us, while he is busy simultaneously writing the next volumes.

"It's the end for a lot of people. It's just not the end for me. I'm still in it. I had better live a long time, I still have a lot of work to do."
