Being forgotten in a discussion or just being neglected by your close friends can cause this phobia to develop in your mind. By the end, people affected by athazagoraphobia lead quite complicated lives, since they suffer from constant self-inflicted psychological torture. They are always waiting for and expecting something from their friends such as attention, or even just a little message saying something along the lines of ‘I’m thinking about you’, and they have a constant need to be reassured. The lack of attention that someone suffering from athazagoraphobia feels during the day can make them very stressed out and it could trigger a great deal of questioning their self-worth.
Watch out for the symptoms
Athazagoraphobia can also cause physical symptoms, such as an accelerated heart rate, sweaty hands, cold sweats and even nausea. Deep down, this phobia is a consequence of a lack of self-confidence and maturity. If you think you’re suffering, try to understand that although your friends are YOUR friends, you don’t own them! They have their own lives, with or without you and that doesn’t mean that they don’t like you.
