However, it seems that Trump has taken his one-sided breakup with Twittersphere very hard and has recently announced he would ‘stand up to Big Tech’ by launching his very own social network, ironically named, 'TRUTH.'
Of course, the beta version of the site was leaked on Twitter within hours of the announcement, attracting a wave of trolls attempting to mock the platform.
TRUTH to rival all major social media platforms
According to a recent press release, TRUTH Social will be developed and launched via a merger between the Trump Media and Technology Group and Special Acquisition Company (SPAC).
Trump has revealed that his plan for TRUTH is to rival all the biggest names currently available in social media.
Much like Twitter has Tweets, TRUTH Social will have Truths, as, of course, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. A statement has also revealed that Trump’s new platform will feature a video service including ‘non-woke entertainment programming, news, podcasts and more.’
Trump announced in a written statement: ‘We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable.’
I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech.
TRUTH Social’s beta rollout goes horribly wrong
TRUTH Social is currently available for pre-order in app stores, with the beta version set to be launched in November.
However, netizens did as netizens do and leaked TRUTH Social’s beta version over Twitter, prompting a wave of people to jump in early and troll the platform.
Internet users flocked to the new platform and began to take up all the Trump-related usernames they could think of, so the former President and now social media CEO wouldn’t be able to use his own name on the platform.
In a ploy to fire up America’s favourite irate businessman, the handles @RealDonaldTrump, @DonaldTrump and @DonaldJTrump were all booked up and unavailable.
But trolls didn’t stop at taking Trump’s name away; the new user masquerading as @DonaldJTrump used their new account to post an image of a defecating pig with the caption ‘Pig Poop Balls.’ Meanwhile, another user dropped a joke Truth stating ‘f**k you @Jack’ in reference to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
TRUTH’s beta site has since been taken down, and those who made unauthorised accounts imitating real people have received messages that they have been locked out of the platform.
