The cause of the missing ink is actually a problem of intellectual property. The tattoo artists possess the rights to the tattoo designs. EA does not have the right to include these designs without agreement and possibly compensation of the artists. Studio 2K, who is behind the NBA 2K series, have included tattoos on their players in the past without the obtaining the rights to feature them and were subsequently brought to court and ordered to pay a sum of 1.1 million dollars.
