Going out on a high
Leaving Real Madrid after accomplishing one of the greatest achievements in modern football, by winning 3 consecutive Champions League titles, Zidane leaves Madrid with his legendary status very much intact. Nobody has accomplished what he has done before and certainly leaves somewhat of a challenge for his successor.
Next season, Real Madrid and its President had everything planned out. The current squad of players that has won everything thrown at them, needs freshening up a little to maintain their ambitions of staying on top. Evidently the challenge for the next manager will be to carry on the legacy left behind by the departing Frenchman. A large part of Zidane’s success as a manager was the sentimental relationship he had managed to create with his players.
Florentino the trigger
It’s a well-known fact that president Florentino Perez always ends up firing his manager. A tradition of excellence and demand that would not have suited a man like Zidane. By going out on such a high, he has avoided the sensitive issue of having to manage his media image which would have eventually faced a lot of scrutiny.
His surprise departure allowed him to reverse the roles for once. Florentino Perez looked like a guy who had just broke up with his girlfriend by ‘mutual consent’ throughout the press conference. He must now handle a crisis situation while Zidane for once, can reap all the rewards that await him following such a career.
Perfect timing for ‘Les Bleus’?
Everyone can agree that Zidane doesn’t have many options for the future. One of his possible options however, could be that of the French national side. After the World Cup, depending on how France do in the competition, discussions will take place between the French FA and Didier Deschamps to decide how the French will move forward for Euro 2020.
In short, Zinedine Zidane has proven that he’s a legend in modern football. Achieving what he has both as a player and a manager, he will go down in history as one of the best to ever grace our screens.
