Coming from incredible footballing stock, with his dad, uncle and cousin all playing top-flight football, Frank Lampard was always destined for the top. His performances over two decades however for club and country far surpassed the expectations of many and he played an integral part in Chelsea’s transformation from nearly men to serial winners.
His tally of 177 goals, is the highest of any midfielder to have played in the Premier League.
Acquired from Atletico Madrid for £35 million in the summer of 2011, Sergio Aguero had always been earmarked as a game changer for Manchester City. A year later and the Argentine was netting the title winning goal for City in 2012 – in what has become one of the Premier League’s most iconic moments.
He has gone on to help City win 4 Premier League trophies, a hatful of domestic cups and become the all-time highest goal scorer in Manchester City’s history.
In a career spanning 20 years at the top level, few English strikers were as prolific as Andrew Cole. He made his breakthrough at Newcastle in the early 90’s before moving to Manchester United where he became a huge part of the Treble winning side of 1999.
After falling out of favour at Old Trafford he continued to bang the goals in at Blackburn, Manchester City and Fulham before ending his Premier League journey at Portsmouth – with an impressive tally of 187 goals.
After bursting on to the scene for Everton in 2002 with a last minute goal against Arsenal, Wayne Rooney’s rise to the top of the English game was stratospheric. He became the most expensive teenager in the world when he joined Manchester United in 2004 and he went on to win 5 Premier League titles at Old Trafford and the Champions League in 2008.
He returned to Everton in 2017 for one more season and now plies his trade at Championship side Derby County.
Topping the all-time goal scorers list is legendary English striker Alan Shearer. Having started his career at Southampton, Shearer’s goals saw him earn a move to big-spending Blackburn who went on to win the Premier League in the 1994/95 season.
Shearer was sought after the world over but decided to join his boyhood club Newcastle United. The Toon never managed to win the Premier League with Shearer in their ranks but his tally of 260 Premier League goals is still revered.
