Everyone in the world of strongmen already knows who Eddie Hall is, since he took the title of World’s Strongest Man in 2017 from Thor Bjornsson aka The Mountain. Although he’s not as strong as Thor nowadays, that wasn’t always the case.

Although he isn’t a holy man, Eddie Hall vowed to adopt a healthier lifestyle than the one he previously led, where he was forced to eat around 12,500 calories a day. According to him, this was ‘torture’ and forced him to reach a weight of 196 kilos on the scales. But this was too much for him and his family.
Swimming, boxing and dieting
Because of this, Hall traded in his two daily full English breakfasts for a much stricter lifestyle. But above all, he got out of the competition game to focus on his main goal.
‘For the people that keep asking why I don’t compete at the world’s strongest man anymore… simple: I choose to live a healthier life now and enjoy the fruits of my labour. I felt as though the sun was beginning to set on my life and I needed to start swimming back from the dark waters to start to see the sunlight again,’ he explained on his Instagram account in May.
And talking about swimming, that’s literally what the man from Newcastle-under-Lyme did. He started swimming after years out of the pool and alongside this, Hall got back into the ring to work on his cardio and maximize his weight loss, which he felt the need to talk about once again on his Instagram account.
‘Cardio training for big guys is unique, you have to adapt it so that you don’t lose muscle and you don’t tire out. Using methods to not only improve your cardiovascular system but also help your body to recover after weight sessions by shifting lactic acid, helping the tendons, ligaments and muscles to repair!!!’
From 196kg to 165kg
A while after he got out of the world’s strongest man game, Eddie Hall seemed to be in impeccable shape. The man who holds the world record for deadlift at the Olympic level (with Thor Bjornsson holding the record for the Elephant bar) recently showed off his new abs on social media sites and he was all smiles.
‘I’m sitting around 163-164kg and think this is my stable weight now, I’ll carry on losing fat and keep gaining muscle at this weight all being well.’ Incredible.
