Benjamin Mendy will not be returning to the field anytime soon, as his third plea for bail was rejected by a judge at the Chester Crown Court.

The Manchester City defendant was remanded in custody on suspicion of rape and sexual assault of three women—one of which was a minor. Three counts of rape took place in October 2020, another in August 2021, and he was also charged with the sexual assault of a woman in January 2021.
As a result he was also suspended from the team just as he was preparing for the start of the football season.
The French international is currently being held at HMP Altcourse prison in Liverpool.
Denied for the third time
On 27 August, the former Monaco player had made an initial request for bail, which was refused by the British justice system. He submitted another application for release on 1 September but that too got rejected.
Today (11 October), the result of a third bail application was made public after a 50-minute hearing in Chester Crown Court and the 27-year-old footballer was denied bail once again by Judge Patrick Thompson.
He has already spent a total of seven weeks locked up behind bars and his trial is set to start on 25 January 2022.
Tough time behind bars
According to a source close to the case, Mendy’s time in jail has not been as smooth sailing as he expected, naturally. Instead of being classified in the VIP section, he ended up in the VP (vulnerable persons) wing, which is where suspects that have sexual offences are normally held.
