It was one of the most anticipated battles to mark the end of 2019. In a packed Marvel Stadium, Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya entered the octagon to end the debate on who is the best middleweight on the planet. At the main event of UFC 243, it was the interim champion who distinguished himself in the first round by sending Whittaker to the ground at the very end of the round.
Using his reach to perfectly counter the Australian, Israel Adesanya gradually regained control of the centre of the octagon and threw his opponent to the mat with a left hook on the counter. The referee then intervened to designate the Last Stylebender as the undisputed champion of the category.
Team Adesanya
At the front row to witness the coronation of a new King, Israel Adesanya's family and loved ones rejoiced as Marc Goddar intervened to save Robert Whittaker from any more unnecessary damage. A joy shared by his training partner, Dan Hooker, who had stayed in the locker room to watch the fight with his coaches.
We suggest you check out the footage of this joy in the video above.
