Kanye West urinates on Grammy amidst music label battle

Kanye West has recently taken to Twitter once again to air his grievances, this time against labels Universal and Sony.

In the post, the rapper claims that he has been trying to buy the rights to his own music but the labels are withholding the cost involved. In the tirade, Kanye posted screengrabs of all his contracts accompanied by a video peeing on one of his Grammy's captioned: 'Trust me...I WON"T STOP'.

Kanye's rant against the music labels Sony and Universal started on Monday when the Gold Digger singer stated that musicians really have no power as the labels own the rights to all their work. Kanye then vowed not to release any more music until he was released from his contracts with the labels. He reiterated the point on Tuesday by stating:

There is no NBA or music industry without black people... fair contracts matter... ownership matters.

Later down the line, Kanye continued to state that the music industry was in much need of a rehaul:

We've gotten comfortable with not having what we deserve ... they [record labels] allow us to have a little money from touring, get some gold chains, some alcohol, some girls and fake numbers that feed our egos ... but we don't own our masters.

Kanye's efforts to reclaim the rights to his music are motivated by his children and his desire to pass the rights of his music down the family line. Kanye posted:

MY CHILDREN WILL OWN MY MASTERS ... NOT YOUR CHILDREN ... MY CHILDREN ... MY CHILDREN ... MY CHILDREN.

Ye continued:

I will do everything in my legal power and use my voice until all artist contracts are changed, starting with getting my masters for my children. I will not stop, I promise you. I am petty and very personal.

In reference to his daughter, North West, Kanye wrote:

This is my daughter's favourite emoji... she’ll be able to do nothing but put emojis up for the rest of her life because my children will own my masters

Kanye's Tuesday Twitter session lasted several hours in which West also violated the terms of his contracts by posting them online, claiming that he had not only one contract with Universal but 10. He also shared the personal contact details of a Forbes editor, Randall Lane, whom he labelled a white supremacist. West wrote:

If any of my fans want to call a white supremacist... this is the editor of Forbes.

It took a whole half an hour before Kanye hid the Tweet and later deleted it. But, this isn't the first time that Forbes has been in West's line of fire as he has repeatedly blasted the magazine for not acknowledging his billionaire status.

The rapper also laid claims that the music industry has turned fans against their heroes and even attempted to kill popular musicians such as Michael Jackson.

Yeezy also posted that his wife, Kim Kardashian, will be handling his legal case as the reality tv star recently announced she will be participating in a four-year law apprenticeship with attorneys Erin Haney and Jessica Jackson. However, Kim has yet to comment on the situation.

Kanye's Twitter rant concluded with some strong realisations about the way that music labels make money off of their musicians, a point that was supported by producer Hit-Boy who posted about the situation on Instagram:

In Hot-Boy's post the producer claimed that he generally did not like Kanye after the rapper stated that he stopped choosing to work with Hit-Boy over his associations with Beyonce. But, the producer admitted that he agreed with Yeezy that labels often exploit musicians with unfair contacts. Yeezy responded:

HI GUYS ... TRUST ME WE WILL NOT STOP ... HITBOY FIRST TO STAND UP ... I DIDN’T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HIM PRODUCING FOR BEYONCÉ ... I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE FACT HE WAS SIGNED TO ME AND I DIDN’T KNOW BUT I KNEW JAY AND BEYONCÉ AND HIT-BOY ... JUST FOR CLARITY.

Kanye finished off the night with a strong claim against the industry:

90% of the record contracts on the planet are still on a royalty A standard record deal is a trap to NEVER have you recoup, and there’s all these hidden costs like the “distribution fees” many labels put in their contracts to make even more money off our work without even trying.

Kanye is not the first artist to seek the Masters to his own music, in fact, rival Taylor Swift has been enduring the same battle against Scooter Braun for what seems like years. However, it is very rare that artists are able to purchase the masters to their music, something that Chicago, Pink Floyd and AC/DC have been successful for in the past.
