Jim drops out of school to become an actor at 16
The path to this incredible career was not an easy one for Jim Carrey at first. Together with his parents and three siblings, he grew up in Canada in very poor circumstances. When he was a teenager, the family could no longer afford the house, and they moved into a VW van. To escape the cramped conditions, the actor lived with his brother John in a tent for months.
To support the family financially, Jim worked as a caretaker and security guard, among other jobs, but also tried his hand as a comedian in comedy clubs in Toronto. At the age of sixteen, Carrey dropped out of school and moved to Los Angeles to become an actor. Success was around the corner, and he soon landed roles in comedy shows and films.

Jim lives in a luxury villa, today
Jim Carrey celebrated his international breakthrough in 1994 with the leading role in the slapstick comedy Ace Ventura—An Animal Detective. Although he received a nomination for the Golden Raspberry as worst new star for the role, he celebrated great success with the audience. A while later, he got offers for bigger and more serious films. Thus began the great journey of one of the best comedians we have today.
Today, Jim lives a rather secluded life in his villa in Los Angeles and often lends his voice to animated films and enjoys solitude.
