Rushed to the hospital
The 43-year-old former singer posted on social media to reveal that after an initial mildly symptomatic episode with the virus, her condition has only deteriorated since.
She is currently being treated in her native island of Madeira at the Dr Nelio Mendonca Hospital, where their mother was taken for emergency surgery following a stroke last year. In a post on instagram, Aveiro explained that:
This is the last type of publication I would like to write. I tried not to do it in recent days, but as news travels fast, and out of respect for those who follow me and care for me and my loved ones, I will share with you the truth.
I was caught by this damn virus. I tested positive on July 17 and have been self-isolating at home since. I was doing well with few symptoms and following protocol.
And added:
Everyone at home kept away from mum and the videos I have published where I am outside were taken before I tested positive.Unfortunately last Friday I started to get worse. I was admitted to hospital and here I am, doing everything I should and recovering thanks God and thanks to the wonderful medical team here.
Cristiano's two encounters with the virus
This isn't the first time the family has had to deal with a coronavirus scare. In October 2020, Portuguese authorities confirmed that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner tested positive for COVID-19.
Though thankfully he was asymptomatic, he tested positive a second time, just 48 hours before a game leading forcing him to cancel his appearance and self-isolate a second time.
