After receiving a call from hotel staff, officers from the Orange County Sheriff's Department came and pronounced him dead on the spot. The circumstances of his demise are still unknown.
No evident cause
According to a short statement issued on Twitter by the Sheriff's Department, there was no sign of foul play or drug use found during initial police investigations. Saget was in the middle of a stand-up tour and had just finished a show in Jacksonville on Saturday night. His friends and family are in shock and devastated. One of his family members said in a statement,
We are devastated to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today. He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, performing live and bringing people from all walks of life together with laughter.
After his last show, he was ecstatic and told his fans that he was 'happily addicted' to his profession. In a message on his Instagram account after the event, he emphasised his delight at being back on stage. He told his followers,
I'm back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I guess I'm finding my new voice and loving every moment of it.
Life and works
Although many comedians admired Saget for his caustic and often cutting performance, he was most famous in the United States for his role in the sitcom Full House. He co-starred with John Stamos and fellow comedian Dave Coulier on the show and played the role of a widowed father of three kids. He received acclaim for his role as Danny Tanner in Full House, which he played from 1987 until 1995.
John Stamos described Saget’s passing away as heartbreaking and tweeted,
I am broken. I am gutted. I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him. I love you so much, Bobby.
Candace Cameron Bure played the role of his on-screen daughter on the show and honoured Saget in her tweet,
I don’t know what to say 💔. I have no words. Bob was one of the best human beings I’ve ever known in my life. I loved him so much.
In recent years, he has gained popularity among younger generations as the narrator of the television show How I Met Your Mother and for his cameo appearances on the TV series Entourage as a highly fictionalised version of himself.
