But clearly not everyone was happy about the court decision and definitely not Alex Morgan. The American World Cup winner took to Twitter to react by tweeting an article from Vice dating back to 12th October 2018: ‘Ronaldo is an Icon of Corruption in Sports’, accompanied by the message, ‘Now this is great journalism’.

In 2009, following the first rape accusation, Kathryn Mayorga dropped all charges after she reached a settlement with Ronaldo in which he paid her $ 375,000. This information was published in Football Leaks by Der Spiegel and the young woman decided to once again file the lawsuit against the Juventus player.

This isn’t the first time that Alex Morgan has gone after Ronaldo. Highly committed to gender equality, the former Olympique Lyonnais player spoke out about one of his goal celebrations: ‘I feel that there is some sort of double standard for females in sports to feel like we have to be humble in our successes and have to celebrate, but not too much, and have to do something but it always has to be in a limited fashion. You see men celebrating all around the world in big tournaments, grabbing their sacks or whatever it is, and when I look at sipping a cup of tea, I’m a little taken aback. You have to laugh about it, to see all of the criticism.’
