This is due to the new changes and updates that the application will soon be receiving. These new updates to their system will stop the application from being compatible with and thus available on some of the older phone models.
In fact, as they revealed in their recent statement, on phones using the following operating systems (Android devices with the 2.3.7 operating system or older after the 1st February 2020, iPhone with iOS 8 or older after 1st February 2020), users will not be able to create new accounts or verify existing accounts after this established date.
Their statement also revealed the reason for these changes:
‘We’ll no longer actively develop for these operating systems; some features might stop functioning at any time.’ They also claimed that from 31st December 2019, WhatsApp will not be available on any phones using a Windows operating system.
The new WhatsApp application will be full of updates and changes such as, among others, emergency responses, call waiting and other features such as group voice calling.
