The two inmates, Davad Zukanovicm, 40, and Lil Ahmetovicm, 46, are actually cousins and were both serving jail time for non-violent crimes including fraud and receiving stolen goods.
The men escaped by scaling the prison walls using a simple watering hose that had been left out in the courtyard.
According to Repubblica daily, in the note that they left the prison guards the convicts also detailed their rationale for leaving the prison, stating that they had some personal business they needed to take care of stating they "needed to protect their children from a nasty business they had got themselves into."
The note also stated that the planned to be back in 15 days or less. To them, it was a necessary action to take in order to make things right as both their wives are also in prison as well.
The men are supposed to be serving a jail term that would last until 2029. Time will tell if they keep good on their promise or if they are inevitably caught by authorities.
