Trump promises ‘orderly transition’ after congress confirms Biden victory

President Donald Trump has now taken a pledge ensuring ‘orderly transition’after Congress confirmed Joe Biden’s Electoral College win.

The pledge comes just hours after the Capitol was stormed by pro-Trump rioters resulting in the death of four people.

After authorities managed to remove the violent mob - which was being encouraged by Trump - Congress was able to resume their session in which Biden was confirmed winner of the election. This officially makes Trump the first President to lose reelection, the House and Senate since 1932.

The joint session was presided by Mike Pence who stated that the riot proved to be a ‘dark day in the history of the United States Capitol’ and that he no longer had any power to contest Biden.

Following the announcement, Trump released a statement claiming that Biden’s inauguration on the 20th will not be hindered. The statement was posted to Twitter by the White House deputy chief of staff for communications, Dan Scavino:

Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th.

The statement which was also reposted to the White House’s Twitter page continued:

I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!

Riot breaks out at the Capitol

On Wednesday night months of tension surrounding the legitimacy of Biden’s electoral win had reached a tipping point as pro-Trump protesters stormed the Captiol. The riot began as congressional Republicans congested the votes in Arizona, causing a delay while congress members debated the grounds of Trump’s claims of voter fraud.

The rally, egged on by Trump via social media, caused people to stampede through barricades and security, in order to rampage through and destroy the offices of congress members.

Security had attempted to tear gas the mob in a four-hour effort to clear the crowds and one woman was shot dead by authorities. Three other people also died during the riot however the circumstances surrounding this is still unclear.

However, following the traumatic scenes of Wednesday night, many Republicans and Trump allies have backtracked their support for the current POTUS, some now even pushing for impeachment.
