This 800-metre-long structure follows a former Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) freight line and offers panoramic views of the Des Moines Valley in Iowa. But the bridge truly shines in the evening, when its decorative lighting starts to show. The High Trestle Bridge lights up until 10:30pm in the summer and up to 9:00pm in the winter. It has a structure which boasts a lit-up tunnel, made up of beautiful arches which were designed by RDG Dahlquist Art Studio.
This trail was originally built in the 1970s for railway transportation on a line to Milwaukee. Now, it’s only used by pedestrians and cyclists who enjoy the marvellous sight during the day and night.
This bridge is so original that in 2015, the BBC even named it one of the most amazing bridges ever built in the world. A well-deserved title!
