Tallest living woman
24-year-old Rumeysa Gelgi from Turkey has just been added to the Guinness World Records as the 'world's tallest woman alive' and she wants to inspire people to accept themselves as they are. In an interview, the towering woman said:
Every disadvantage can be turned into an advantage for yourself so accept yourself for who you are, be aware of your potential and do your best.
Gelgi suffered with a condition called Weaver syndrome, causing unusual accelerated growth, which has left her relying on the use of a wheelchair and walking cane to get around. Since rising to fame after being named the tallest teenager back in 2014, she has used her platform to raise awareness on the rare condition. Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief at Guinness World Records, said:
It's an honour to welcome Rumeysa back into the record books. Her indomitable spirit and pride at standing out from the crowd is an inspiration.
And added:
The category of tallest living woman is not one that changes hands very often, so I'm excited to share this news with the world.
The tallest living man
Interestingly enough, the tallest living man on Earth also happens to hail from Turkey. His name is Sultan Kosen and stands at 8ft 2.8 inches (251cm). When asked about he felt of taking the title of the tallest living man, he said:
I never imagined I would be in the book, I dreamed about it, but it was still a huge surprise.
