‘No Phone Zone’
Managers of The Silent Woman Inn in Wareham Forest, Dorset, are testing out a No Phone Zone campaign until the and of the year to encourage customers to enjoy the time they spend with their family and friends while eating.
It is also the hope of the bosses at the pub that the initiative will make for a calmer environment, devoid of the tension that arises when customers have to listen to others talk on their phones.
We looked at various ways we could encourage people to engage more at the dinner table, and we've found giving families the chance to part with their devices for a mere couple of hours is a great way to bring them closer and embrace family time.
Research-Backed
Research conducted by mobile network testing company Global Wireless Solutions found that 71 per cent of Brits use their phones at the dinner table to check social media feeds, message family or friends, or take photos of their food.
Interestingly, eight in 10 of the participants who took part in the study who admitted to using their phones while dining also get irritated when they see others doing the same.
The pub hopes that by offering to half the cost of eating at the facility, customers would be willing to drop their devices in boxes which will be locked for the duration of their meal.
The pub’s spokesperson added:
