Premature ejaculation wipes
Also known as the benzocaine wipes, these products offer a cheaper remedy for premature ejaculation. As the name suggests, these are disposable wipes moistened with numbing agent, called benzocaine, or other chemicals.
Used in low amounts, benzocaine only reduces overstimulation without causing numbness, which can reduce pleasure and cause pain during intercourse.
When rubbed on the penis, it decreases skin sensitivity on the head and shaft of the penis. This then slows down the ejaculatory process.
It is recommended to wipe the penis few minutes before engaging in sexual activity, allowing the area to dry first. According to experts, benzocaine wipes are more preferable to gels and sprays, which contain lidocaine and may affect the partner’s sensations.
How effective are they?
Premature ejaculation wipes were first introduced in 2017 after a study found that using 4% benzocaine wipes before sex could delay ejaculation by up to 5 minutes and 23 seconds.
21 heterosexual adult men in monogamous relations were used for the experiment. Prior to the study, they had all reported:
- Feeling like they had little or no control over their ejaculation time
- They felt distressed by how short they last
- Ejaculating in less than two minutes after penetration
The findings of the study were arrived at after two months in 15 participants who used the wipes. However, more studies need to be done to see how these wipes compare to other types of PE treatments such medical erection devices and surgical procedures.
Side effects
Benzocaine wipes may not offer long-term solutions to the problem of premature ejaculation. They may also present some side effects, such as:
- dry, flaky skin
- Itching and burning or stinging sensations
- skin discolouration and inflammation
- tenderness or pain
If any of these happen, it is advisable to immediatelywash one’s hands and genitals.
