Caught In The Act
In a clip released on Saturday, the 58-year-old woman could be seen loading up a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine into the syringe and then depositing its content in a tissue before pretending to inject it into the arms of anti-vaxxers.
Investigators had hidden a camera at the inoculation centre in the Sicilian capital of Palermo as part of investigations into the proliferation of fake vaccine certificates in the country.
According to the police, the booster dose the woman received was fake as well. She has been arrested and charged with forgery and embezzlement. She is reported to have pleaded guilty and is collaborating with authorities by naming her accomplices.
The woman said she agreed to fake the vaccination of people to support her son at university, according to The Guardian. She also reportedly confessed to providing anti-vaxxers with fake certificates with negative Covid swab results.
Disturbing Trend
The Palermo police commissioner, Leopoldo Laricchia, said in a statement.
We have uncovered the dark and fraudulent plots of these diehard, no-vax people who do not hesitate to break the law. This investigation also shows how, unfortunately, there are still unvaccinated health workers who work in hospitals in close contact with patients.
The practice of some health workers pretending to inject people with the vaccines is on the rise. Over a dozen arrests have been made, including at least three doctors being investigated for administering fake jabs to people for a fee of £330 each.
Just last Wednesday, a man in Ancona in the Marche region of Italy was arrested for allegedly giving fake Covid vaccines to at least 45 people. He reportedly emptied vaccines into a medical waste bin and then applying bandages on the arms of people who had paid for the service.
He is under investigations by the town's tribunal for corruption, fake certificates and wasting public goods.
