Fast food giant, McDonald’s has run out of milkshakes in all its 1,250 outlets across the United Kingdom. This has been blamed on supply chain issues caused by shortage of lorry drivers within the UK.

Apart from milkshakes, the company has also been unable to serve bottled drinks in all its Great Britain outlets.
The burger chain has assured its customers of efforts to return these items to the menu soon.
Industry-wide problem
Several players in the fast-food industry have been affected by the ongoing issue of driver shortage across the UK.
Just last week, Nandos had to close around 50 of its restaurants due to a shortage of chicken and staff. KFC issued a warning recently that it was unable to stock some menu items.
Supermarkets have been hard hit by these issues as well, with many having empty shelves.
A spokesperson at McDonald’s said the current shortage is one they are hoping to address as soon as possible.

Shortage of drivers
There has been a sharp decline in the number of lorry drivers since Brexit came into effect.
This has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, with many wholesalers unable to deliver goods to shops.
August has been a particularly difficult month as many workers go on annual holiday.
There have been calls for the government to reconsider its plan of not granting temporary work visas to drivers from the EU.
