Gilson do Nascimento, 43, was hit in the head by fragments of metal from the explosive keg.
He rented the beer storage equipment for a festive family gathering at his home in the town of Campo Bom, Brazil.
An Accident
According to Nascimento’s niece, they realized during the get-together that there was a problem with the keg and that it was unable to dispense beer.
The deceased, who owned a locksmith business, was instructed by the company he rented the equipment from, on how to fix it. The niece told local media:
My uncle called them (the rental company) and they gave him instructions on how to start fixing it until they arrived. The beer wasn’t coming out, only foam.
The keg exploded while he was trying to fix it. Police spokesperson Clovis Nei da Silva said the case is being treated as an accident:
We are interviewing witnesses at the scene at the time of the incident. For now, the incident has been registered, and an autopsy has been requested.
'A Wonderful Family Man'
The incident occurred in front of the deceased wife, 15-year-old son, sister and niece who were all present at the party. His death is coming six years after battling cancer and spending two months in intensive care.
His godmother Angela Maria de Oliveira told local media:
He was a warrior, a working man, a wonderful family man. He was everything to us. He will be sorely missed in our lives, it was a full house with him, always a full house.
