Ongoing Treatment
Rob Wellings from Buxton - a die-hard fan of Stockport County FC - could not be vaccinated against Covid because he was undergoing treatment for cellulitis, according to his friend, Simon Maguire. He told Manchester Evening News:
He fought it off for a bit, and then it came back. He had a real ordeal with it. He was on a ventilator, and then they got him back. Then he caught pneumonia. That took him back down. It was one thing after another.
Cellulitis is a common, but potentially serious bacterial skin infection which leaves the affected area looking swollen and red, sometimes painful to the touch. If not treated, the infection can become life-threatening as it spreads to the lymph nodes and bloodstream.
Massive Shock
Simon said this of his late ‘outdoorsy’ friend:
You used to get a video of him at 2am being Bear Grylls in the woods.
Rob was also known to be a keen martial artist. In order to provide some financial protection for the family left behind, Simon has set up a fundraiser, parts of which read:
He was otherwise a strong and healthy man who regularly exercised and practised martial arts, so it's come as a massive shock to family and friends. Rob's enthusiasm for life and generosity was infectious, and he was equally loved in his native Buxton and 'second home' following Stockport County FC.
