The Hirslanden Clinic in Switzerland has made a very unfortunate hygienic discovery for men.
While researchers initially wanted to study the risks of disease transmission between dogs and humans... They eventually put their finger on something else.
Scientists collected samples from the beards of 18 men aged 18 to 76 and samples from the necks of 30 dogs of different breeds.
The results? The presence of bacteria is much higher in our bearded men than in canines.
Professor Andreas Gutzeit is clear:
"Researchers have noted a much more significant bacterial presence in men's beards than in animal hair. [...] On the basis of these results, dogs can be considered cleaner than bearded men."
Of the 18 men tested, 100% of them had beards infected with bacteria and other microbes, while only 23 dogs out of the 30 dogs studied carried a high amount of bacteria.
