As all government imposed social restrictions are set to be lifted on 21 June if all goes as planned, music festivals have been announcing their big return following the soul-crushing cancellations of last summer.

Music festival season in plain sight
The latest to announce its reemergence from the shadows of the coronavirus is the Isle of Wight Festival which has just revealed its lineup for the 2021 edition. So, music festival goers, get your credit cards ready because we have a feeling this summer will be unlike any other. After lockdowns upon lockdowns impinging on our freedom to eat, sleep, rave and repeat, the light at the end of the tunnel is beaming!
Oasis' Liam Gallagher will be headlining the main stage on Friday, with Snow Patrol and David Guetta teaming up to take centre stage on Saturday and Duran Duran closing out the epic weekend on Sunday night.
Tom Jones and the The Script have been confirmed as special guests. You can also expect to see Sam Fender, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Primal Scream, Kaiser Chiefs, You Me At Six, All Saints, Maximo Park, Supergrass, James Vincent McMorrow, James Arthur, Meghan McKenna, Razorlight, Scouting For Girls and Imelda May on that weekend.
Safety measures to be put into place
The festival's promoter John Giddings explained that safety measures would be prioritize to avoid a last minute cancellation, as was the case last year:
Our audience always has an incredible time at the festival and we’re thrilled with the line-up on offer for them. It’s a fantastic array of artists; from icons to emerging talent and not forgetting everything still to come from additional stages across the festival.
And added that:
Over the coming months we’ll be watching and learning from the events taking place before us and, of course, liaising with all the relevant authorities to make sure everyone – audience, artists, staff, the community – is kept safe. See you in September!
The Isle of Wight Festival 2021 will take place between September 16 and 19 with weekend tickets starting at £185.
