A major bug was spotted last Tuesday, January 29th, 2019 on Apple devices using iOS 12.1 software. Due to an anomaly in the new FaceTime group feature, it has been possible since October 2018 to spy on the person you want to talk to through their microphone and camera, without their consent. In fact, when you call someone through FaceTime, just tap ‘Add Person to FaceTime’ and add yourself to the conversation to create a group. The result is that this action activates the microphone of the person you want to talk to even though they haven’t answered.

Apple promises a software update
But that's not all. Even worse, the camera of your correspondent can turn on if they press the volume control buttons or lock the iPhone, still without having answered. After the revelation of this bug on social networks, Apple reacted and released a statement: ‘We are aware of the problem and we are preparing a patch that will be distributed through a software update later this week.’ Since then, FaceTime group has been disabled but if you have any doubts, it is advisable to disable the application on your phone (Settings -> FaceTime -> uncheck the option).
