Yesterday (1 September) authorities declared a state of emergency in New York City after Hurricane Ida brought about a battalion of floods that have been ravaging the city. Officials are calling this a ‘historical weather event’ as this is the first time they’ve ever had to issue a flash flood emergency in New York City.

State of emergency
According to The Guardian, at least eight people have died because ofthe storm. To avoid any further casualties or injuries, New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, has implemented a travel ban until 5:00 am on 2 September. The mayor took to Twitter to request all civilians to ‘stay off the streets’ and the subways. He wrote:
Please stay off the streets tonight and let our first responders and emergency services get their work done.
If you’re thinking of going outside, don’t. Stay off the subways. Stay off the roads. Don’t drive into these heavy waters.
Since yesterday Twitter has been exploding with videos city residents have uploading to show just how direthe situationreally is.
Submerged metro
As shown in the videos below, the subway stations have been almost completely submerged and service has been suspended in all lines.
Homes getting flooded
People have also been uploading videos of the water ravaging their homes and many have been experiencing a power outage as well.
Streets turned into swimming pools
Streets have been turning into massive pools of water, making it near impossible for vehicles to tread the water.
