On Sunday 10th March 2019, Antonis Mavropoulos was heading to his flight to Nairobi. He was meant to board the Boeing 737 MAX, the plane that crashed six minutes after it took off. But because he was two minutes late, he escaped death. Antonis Mavropoulos told his story on Facebook.

‘My lucky day’
‘When I arrived, the boarding had been closed and I was looking at the last passengers on the bell to come in – I was screaming to put me on but they did not allow it,' explained Antonis Mavropoulos in his long Facebook post entitled ‘My lucky day’.
‘On 10:50, as we joined the next flight, two security officers informed me that for security reasons that a senior officer will explain to me, they will not allow my boarding. In my intense protests they left no margin of discussion and led me to their superior, to the airport police department.He told me gently not to protest and say thank you to God, because I am the only passenger who did not enter the flight et 302 which is missing,’ he continued.
It was only after he received a text message from a friend that Antonis Mavropoulos learned that the plane he missed had crashed.
‘I collapsed because then I realised that I was lucky I stood.’
