Austin Clay, 24, turned himself into police the same night and was held on a 20,000 dollar bail. He’s facing a 10,000 dollar fine and three years jail sentence.
In the footage recently shared by a passerby, Clay flees the scene, leaving his pickaxe amongst the remains of the president's smashed up star. The man allegedly pulled the tool out of a guitar case before striking Trump's sidewalk honour. No one tried to stop him as he smashed the star, but then again he was madly swinging a pickaxe, not the easiest thing to shut down.
It’s not the first time Trump’s star has been a victim of vandalism, but the damage Clay caused is far worse than James Otis' bang-up work in 2016. Otis also used a pickaxe to destroy Trump’s star. He pleaded no contest to a vandalism felony in February 2017 and was sentenced to three years of probation and 20 days of community service. He was also slapped with 4,400 dollars' worth of fines.
