Donald Trump banned from social media following incitement of Capitol violence

Twitter has recently released a statement claiming they have banned Donald Trump’s account for at least 12 hours pending the deletion of three tweets breaching the company’s ‘Civil Integrity Policy.’

In a social media message to the protester’s Trump posted a video aimed at the Capitol protesters saying ‘I love you’ and labelling them as patriots, as well as reciting more posts claiming election fraud. The now-deleted video stated:

These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!

Twitter responded to the messages stating that failure to delete the tweets would result in a permanent ban. However, it seems that the President has folded as two of the three posts have now been deleted.

Facebook and Instagram have also put a 24-hour ban in place for the man after deleting the very same video. The move was coupled with a statement explaining that the outgoing president was inciting violence:

We removed it because on balance we believe it contributes to rather than diminishes the risk of ongoing violence.

Youtube has also taken down the video as it ‘violated policies on spreading election fraud’.

Republicans move for impeachment

It now seems that members of the Trump Cabinet are in talks about invoking the 25th amendment, one that would see Trump removed from office despite only having 14 days left in his presidency.

Republican Ilhan Omar has announced that she is now drawing up articles of impeachment. The politician announced:

Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate. We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath.

Many other Republicans and Trump allies have also agreed that the impeachment of Trump is necessary for public safety and fulfilment of the party’s oath to the country:

Capitol attacks not a ‘total surprise’

Many other politicians have now taken to social media platforms in response to the riot that resulted in the death of at least one woman.

Soon-to-be President Joe Biden has released a statement following the Capitol attack, claiming that ‘our nation, that was once a beacon of light and hope for democracy, has come to such a dark moment’, claiming that America will ‘once again prevail’.

Biden also released a series of tweets reminding the county that ‘democracy is fragile’. Hinting at Trump’s leadership Biden continued to state that democracy requires strong leaders ‘who are devoted not to pursuit of power and personal interest at any cost, but to the common good.’

Former President Barack Obama has also released a statement on the news, shunning Trump for his ‘baseless claims’ on election fraud and outing the idea as a ‘fantasy narrative’ that has caused both shame and violence. Obama wrote:

History will rightly remember today’s violence at the Captiol, incited by a sitting President who has continued to baselessly lie about the outcome of a lawful election, as a moment of great dishonour and shame for our nation. But we’d be kidding ourselves if we treated it as a total surprise.

Congresswoman Cori Bush has also hit out on social media, calling for real consequences for Trump and Republican Office members for inciting a ‘domestic terror attack’, breaking the ‘sacred oat of office’.

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez also released a series of tweets while being barricaded in at the disastrous scene. AOC wrote, that those responsible should be held accountable, later she released a single tweet ‘Impeach’:

Was barricaded in for several hours. I’ll tell y’all about it later. For now, we must focus on task at hand: to preserve the integrity of our democracy, hold accountable those responsible for their attempts to subvert our nation’s elections and shred our Constitution apart.
