Having ended up in a stand-off with the 3 robbers, the brave employee worker stood his ground despite having a plastic box thrown at him and being repeatedly told to "get the f*ck down". The three masked men attempted to persist for several moments before finally fleeing the store, which was when the shopkeeper finally smashed the glass pipe as they ran through the doorway. It was alleged that a fourth man was waiting in a vehicle outside the recreational cannabis store.
According to Detective Constable Nathan Leland of the Tyendinaga Police Service, “this would be [their] second robbery in the past two weeks". Since the legislation of cannabis both for medicinal and recreational use in Canada, cannabis dispensaries have become a hot target for robberies, where culptrits can gather their stock of cannabis to sell on the black market in return for high profits.
Similar crimes have been reported in the US, where the substance has been legalised in select states, attracting thieves to summon the goods across to states where legal distribution of cannabis is strictly regulated and only limited to medicinal use.
