Barack Obama Slams Donald Trump For Treating Presidency As ‘One More Reality Show'

After Kamala Harris was announced as the Democratic party's nomination for Vice President in November’s upcoming US election, the Democratic National Convention has been taking place this week. Due to the ongoing pandemic, important Democratic figures have been giving speeches in front of cameras, rather than live crowds.

Earlier this week, former First Lady Michelle Obama criticised the Republican President Donald Trump in a rare public attack - saying that he is ‘in over his head’ and urging voters to vote for Democratic nominees Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this November. Now, her husband has given his own speech criticising the Trump presidency.

Speaking on Wednesday night, former President Obama said that Trump has ‘shown no interest in putting in the work. No interest in finding common ground. No interest in using the awesome power of his office to help anyone but himself and his friends. No interest in treating the presidency as anything but one more reality show that he can use to get the attention he craves.’

President Trump was clearly watching the speech as he responded in real-time with a series of raging all-caps Tweets accusing Obama of spying on his campaign - referencing yet again a long-standing conspiracy theory that CNN correspondent Jeremy Diamond described as ‘patently false’.

The US election is set to take place on November 3rd 2020. Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are standing against the incumbents President Donald Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence in what is expected to be a close-run contest. The winner of the election will be officially inaugurated in January 2021.
