The Australian people are divided
On the one hand, there's the economic reality. Indeed, because of this project Adani will create many jobs, which is not negligible for people actively looking for work.
On the other, there's the environmental impact. Various environmental organizations warn against this project. The giant mine will contribute to global warming and the deterioration of the already fragile Great Barrier Reef.
The mine aims to produce more than 60 million tonnes of coal a year, the equivalent of 130 million tonnes of greenhouse gases. The total investment for this mine would be around $ 30 billion.
The fight goes on
According to some, all this is a political maneuver in anticipation of federal elections.
After elections, the opposition to the project won. It will therefore be reevaluated by local authorities as well as the state of Queensland. Remember that the Great Barrier Reef is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
