Now that Ant is back, he's spoken out about a number of his struggles during new show Ant & Dec's DNA Journey, which delves into the comedy duo's ancestry. As well as Dec's revelation about the anger he felt at Ant's behaviour last year, Ant also spoke out about his relationship with his father.
Now aged 43, Ant became estranged from his plumber father, Raymond, at the age of 10 when he walked out on him, his mother and two younger sisters. Whilst Ant has always been close to his mum, Christine, he has only recently reconciled with his dad. Ant worked three jobs after his dad walked out to help provide for younger sisters Emma and Sahra.
Speaking on Ant & Dec's DNA Journey, Ant revealed why he's got back in contact with his father: 'To be fair, life is too short. There is no point holding grudges or anything like that. You get to that age… I turned 40 and I just thought let’s stop messing about, let’s get in touch because you never know what’s going to happen.'
Ant & Dec's DNA Journey, which is a two-part documentary, will air at 9pm on Sunday 10th and Monday 11th November - one week before the return of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! the following Sunday night.
