Bitten fingers
The woman in question, whose twitter handle is @bahamahoopyogi, posted a video of the attack showing the large lizard taking a bite out of her outstretched hand. The yogi was attempting to film content for her online yoga business before being attacked by the creature. The video has since gone viral, having amassed more than 3.3 million views on the social media platform.
In the clip, you can see the woman performing an intricate pose in which she arches her back and extends her arm with her fingers pointing downwards before exclaiming:
Ouch! Oh my f**king God. You son of a b**ch—He bit my f**king finger!
At which point, she proceeds to chuck sand at the lizard to get it to scurry off. The bite was so severe that the woman required medical assistance and received antibiotics to prevent an infection. She explained that:
Everyone keeps asking if I didn't see if. To be clear, there were iguanas all over the beach. Ppl go there to feed them all the time.
How dangerous are iguanas?
According to pet website The Pet Enthusiast, a bite from an iguana can cause some pretty severe pain:
An iguana bite is not poisonous or venomous, but it can do serious damage. Iguanas have atrophied venom glands that produce only a very weak and harmless venom. Their bites can cause serious injuries to the fingers, ankles, wrists, and face.
And adds that:
Reptiles carry negative bacteria in their mouths, which can impact antibiotic treatments. Antibiotics should be taken as prescribed, completing the full course.
