Alec Baldwin shooting: Set had experienced two prior accidental firearm discharges

A stunt double for Alec Baldwin on the set of the film, Rust reportedly fired two rounds of live ammunition before Thursday’s fatal shooting of cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. According to reports, there had been concerns about gun safety on the set.

An anonymous worker told ABC News, there had been two accidental live firing of ammunition on the set prior to Thursday’s incident.

A prop gun fired by Hollywood star, Alec Baldwin, resulted in the death of Ms Hutchins. Director of the film, Joel Souza was also wounded in the shoulder when the gun went off during filming in New Mexico.

In a statement, Balwin said:

I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred, and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.

Joel Souza, 48, who was discharged after receiving emergency treatment, has released a statement following the death of Haylna Hutchins:

I am gutted by the loss of my friend and colleague, Halyna. She was kind, vibrant, incredibly talented, fought for every inch, and always pushed me to be better.

Cold Gun!

Law enforcement officials say, the actor was told the gun he was using as a prop was safe before he fired it. It was handed to him by an assistant director, court records show.

According to records, assistant director Dave Halls did not know the prop contained live ammunition and indicated it was unloaded by shouting 'cold gun!'.

Ms Hutchins, 42, was from Ukraine and studied journalism in Kyiv, and film in Los Angeles. She was named a rising star by the American Cinematographer magazine in 2019 and was the director of photography for the 2020 action film Archenemy.
