An improvisation that stunned everyone
For this film that stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the completely immoral stockbroker, the director chose to give the newbie actress, Margot Robbie, a chance. A choice, that the director explained, revealed how incredibly bold the actress was to get the role.
‘She clinched her part in The Wolf of Wall Street during our first meeting,’ stated the New York filmmaker. During her first scene, the young woman completely improvised by giving Leonardo DiCaprio a huge slap in the face.
‘[It was] an improvisation that stunned us all,’ said Martin Scorsese.
A once-in-a-lifetime chance
As for her, this is how Margot Robbie explained her actions during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in August.
‘In my head I was like: ‘You have literally 30 seconds left in this room and if you don’t do something impressive nothing will ever come of it,’ revealed the Australian actress.
After slapping Leonardo DiCaprio in the face, the young woman said that she felt a pang of panic. But this was quickly swept aside by the Oscar-winning actor and Martin Scorsese, both of whom loved her performance.
‘And then all of a sudden, Marty and Leo just burst out laughing. Marty says, ‘That was great!’ Leo’s like ‘Hit me again!’’
