A treasure estimated at several million pounds
A small town near Seville, Spain just made big headlines. Workers in a southern Spanish village discovered real treasure: 19 amphoras loaded with bronze coins from the 4th century. This historic discovery is one of the first of its kind. As they were found still in good condition, the amphoras—estimated to be worth millions of pounds—were transferred to the Archaeological Museum of Seville.
An historic discovery
“It’s a unique collection, and there are very few similar cases,” stated Ana Navarro, the director of the Archaeological Museum, in a press conference. She also noted that the amphoras had never been used and that the coins bore the inscriptions of emperors Maximian and Constantine. Following the find, construction in the area was suspended and archaeological excavations were put into place with the hopes of unearthing similar artifacts.
