Although African wild dogs are very dangerous for other animals like wildebeest, when they are alone, there is no way that they could compete with a King or Queen of the Jungle.
A true performer
When you don’t have the strength, speed or the ferocity to compete with your opponent, cunning can be your saving grace, and the African wild dog in this video knew just how to use his. He decided to patiently wait and accept the pain, going for a risky strategy that did, however, end up paying off: playing dead.
So when the lioness finally releases him so she could get back to her hunt, the dog managed to escape and flee the scene. A very good, strategy as it seems, which allowed the African wild dog to live another day in the Hwange National Park.
