What a narrow escape! When he came face to face with a bull from Garcigrande during a bullfight in the Arévalo arena in Spain during the Ferias de San Victorino, the famous bullfighter Juan José Padilla was literally 'scalped' by the animal on Saturday 8th July 2018 after it charged at him.

In a home video broadcast by Sud Ouest, we can see the bullfighter gored and trampled on. He then gets up with his hand on his head that seemed to have been ripped to shreds. Quickly taken care of by the nurse at the Ferias, the matador posted photos on Twitter of his head when it had been stitched up after the accident (images that some people may find disturbing).
Despite this mishap, the bullfighter didn’t suffer any brain damage, and even returned for the Pamplona bull run on 13th July. He finally retired from bullfighting in October after cutting two ears from the bull he faced for his last fight, and being carried out of the ring on the shoulders of the crowd.
In the UK, bullfighting has long been considered a controversial subject, and there are many people that want to see it banned.
