Well, the size of this red-bellied snake has shocked many! The catchers (aka the heroes) found the large slithering creature at Belmore Shooting Range. Thankfully, they caught it before it sunk its venom into someone!
What’s so dangerous about red-bellied snakes? The Australian Museum writes:
"The venom has predominantly anticoagulant and myotoxic effects, and symptoms of envenomation include bleeding and/or swelling at the bite site, nausea, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, sweating, local or general muscle pain and weakness, and red-brown urine."
However, the snake, despite its lethal venom, doesn’t kill very often. Thank goodness! The Land Down Under doesn’t need any more deadly reptiles and insects.
