Will the treasure remain undiscovered forever?
Until 2013, he often published clues that allowed conclusions to be drawn regarding the location of the coveted chest. On the US side of the Rocky Mountains, more than a quarter of a million people are seeking it—without success. Instead, four unlucky explorers died while attempting to flip their life upside down by discovering the treasure. Will Fenn carry the answer to the puzzle to the grave with him?
The treasure has remained undiscovered for over a decade—until now. The long-awaited message recently appeared on the millionaire's website, 'oldsantafetradingco.com.'
In an official statement, Fenn writes:
I don't know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the exact spot. I congratulate the thousands of people who have joined the quest and I hope the promise of other discoveries will continue to lure them. So the search is over.

The American broadcaster ABC News reports what the chest should contain: rare gold coins and jewels, animal figures, ancient Chinese faces carved from jade, jewellery with rubies, emeralds, and prehistoric mirrors made of hammered gold.
Forrest Fenn, on the other hand, isn't sure what to make of it. Speaking to ABC News, he says:
I don't know, I feel part happy and part sad that the treasure hunt is over.
