On a relatively normal farm located in Morgan Hill, California, a wild pig managed to find its way onto the property. The owners, who were unsure of how to handle the matter, decided to act fast and kill the pig to prevent harm from coming to the other animals on the land.

One of the in-laws of the farm owners decided to take to Reddit to share the story of what happened next for our own entertainment purposes. After having killed a wild pig that had got onto the property, this man had made a very surprising discovery when they were preparing the animal to eat. Its flesh had turned a bizarre colour! GlendilTEK who claims the pig was shot by his in-laws on their ranch stated:
They thought it a normal pig until they cut it open. When they cut into the pig they found that the fat on the pig was a fluorescent blue. Just to clarify since there has been questions they did not start cutting open the pig until they had strapped it to the ATV and driven back home so most of the blood has left the pigs body at this point.
Surely the man was a little uneasy about making a meal out of this seeminglyalien pig, but according to him, the explanation was actually rather simple. GlendilTEK continued:
Everything else about the pig was normal, the meat, blood, etc. The only weird part was the blue fat throughout the body. I know blue pigmentation is often caused from copper poisoning but all that they have are some old mercury mine shafts that they have filled in. They have also shot wild pigs on the ranch before and none of them have been blue.
Possible explanations
UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine claims that the case can be filed under 'freaky Friday' but no conclusions could be drawn from the image as it could very well have been edited.
However, a spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Andrew Hughan, told the Morgan Hill Times that it is not unheard of to find wild pigs with discolouration and that it often occurs when they eat blue dye. The spokesperson stated:
In those cases, it was determined the affected animals had likely consumed chemicals that contained a blue dye. Pigs eat pesticides and rodenticides, and it stains the fat of the pig. We recommend not eating the animal, and you should try to dispose of it so it doesn’t get back into the environment.
